There are 3 levels.

The Corsican vegetation levels its species according to the altitude. We can always distinguish 3 characteristics.

Mountain (from 1500 m to 1900 m)
Forests are present throughout all the island and Pine forests in the Niolu, the Restonica, in the Rotondu and Renosu massifs as well as Bavella and the Cagna Moutains in the extreme south of the island.

High Valleys (from 500 m to 1500 m)
They bear the hand print of man such as the Castagniccia (in the south of Bastia) and meaning the Corsican language "chataigneraie".
It’s the result of voluntary plantation for centuries." La Balagne" and "Le Valincu" as well are lands were they planted another symbolic Mediterranean tree : The Olive tree.

The Low Regions (up until 500 m)
The seaside is on the hottest slopes extends from the zone where the "maquis" and the "garrigue" areas. Its exotic plant.
There are Barbary figs, American agaves, aloes eucalyptus and "cedrat" trees.
The wild bush up to 5 or 6 meters high, covers an enormous area of the inside coast. "Cistes", "calycotomes", strawberry trees, juniper, myrtle, "lentisques", asphodels, blue thistle and cyclamen.
And of course green chestnuts and cork-oaks mix majestically into the Corsican scrub.
