HISTORY : Modern Corsica

After the second World War millions of Corsican emigrated on the continent like Marseille. The regional claims began once again and multiplied.

1957 : A regional action program with an agricultural goal was launched, a company to develop the agricultural land was created it’s the SOMIVAC.

1960 : Action against the project to create a nuclear experience centre in Calvi.

1962 : action against elimination of the SNCF and against the electric cables between Sardinia (carbo-sarde)

1970 : creation of the Corsican region.

1971 : creation of the Regional Natural Park

1974 : action against the dumping along the coast of Cap Corsica the "boues rouges" chemical factory pollution from Montedison Italy. The ship was bombed.

1975 : Corsica was separated into two departments Upper and Lower Corsica. Violent incidents especially in Aleria were followed by the autonomist and independent development tendencies.
-21/08/1975 : The winery of pied-noir from north Africa by a commando of "L’ARC" (Action Regional Corsica) headed by Edmond Simeoni to denounce the chemical production of wine and other crimes. The assault was given two police men were killed.
-27/08/1975 : New battles in Bastia with death and 18 injured amongst the police forces. Tanks arrived in the streets of Bastia.

1976 : Creation of the "Front de Liberation National de la Corse" (FLNC). The bombings multiply.

1981-2 : A new status for Corsica is drawn up for the entire island, the first Corsican assembly is elected by universal votes.

1982 : Its also the inauguration of the new buildings of the Pasquale Paoli University in Corte. There were already 3,500 youth who studied in the four campuses.

1984 : Election of the second Corsican assembly only lists having obtained 5% of votes expressed could be admitted to the division of the seats. "Unità Naziunalista" a politic nationalist group passed the 5% and obtained three elected.

1986 : Third Corsican assembly, as in the first two elections no group had the entire majority of the Corsican assembly.
The Nationalists gained 6 electors.

1991 : The Regional assembly saw its power enlarge a territorial community with widespread powers was born.

1992 : The election of the National Corsican Assembly. The Nationalist movement had 25% of the voice and 13 elected. The national idea was on its way, but would be allowed down by the outburst of nationalistic movements which was driven by internal brotherhood clashes.

1995 : Creation of "l’IMEDOC" (regrouped the Economic Interest of Sardinia, Corsica and the Balearic Islands).

1996 : The NGV arrived connecting Corsica and Italy and the Continent in record time.

1998 : The 6th February the French governor Claude Erignac was shot down in Ajaccio by an underground movement "Sampieru" up to now unknown. Followed by an important demonstration in Ajaccio and Bastia against violence.

1999 : New election of the Corsican Assembly, the second round the Independents of "Corsica Nazione" gained almost 17% of the votes and 8 elected members. No group obtained the entire majority. After almost 20 years the presidents of the Corsica assembly are still part of the French Nationality. Following a criminal fire committed by the police against a restaurant of "Cala d’Oru" the government of the region was arrested and imprisoned. The assumed instigators of the French governor Claude Erignac were almost all caught. Bombings began in daylight.
2000 drawn up as the Matignon Process the discussions initiated by the government were started.
